Join a video visit

Survivors and partners who are joining a scheduled video visit

Before you join

What to have ready

You need a link, a safe place to connect, and a phone or computer with a browser. You do not need a full account and you do not need to install an app.

  • The one-time visit link you were sent
  • A place where you can speak safely
  • Your language choice or interpreter need, if you want one
  • Permission to use a camera and microphone, or a choice to join by audio only

A quick exit control is on every survivor-facing page. You can leave at once if you need to. Read Leave a page quickly and safely before you join if you use a shared device.

Steps

Join in six steps

Follow the order below. Each step shows what you will see and what happens next.

  1. Open the link

Tap the link on your phone or open it in your browser. The page explains what the link does and when it expires, in plain words. It does not ask for a full account.

  2. Check that it is safe to connect

Answer the check-in question about whether it is safe to connect now. If the answer is not sure, you can leave and return with the same link until the visit window closes.

  3. Choose language support

Pick your preferred language. If you need an interpreter for the visit, ask for one here. The program states supported languages and any separate cost before the visit, and confidentiality applies to every request.

  4. Choose audio or video

Test your microphone and, if you choose video, your camera. On a slow connection or small data plan, choose audio only. You can change the choice before you join.

  5. Wait in the waiting room

After check-in you wait on a neutral screen. It shows only that you are waiting. It does not show other people, staff surnames, or program details. A queue position is shown only.

  6. Join when you are admitted

Staff admit you from the waiting room. Join in the browser. Audio and video visits are not recorded and recording controls stay off. The visit screen states this.

Choices on the check-in page

Interpreter and low-bandwidth choices

Choose what fits your connection and your language needs before you join. Staff see your choices on the visit screen.

  • Interpreter for phone and video visits, with supported languages listed by the program
  • Audio-only joining when video will not work on low bandwidth
  • Phone joining without an app where the program supports it
  • Translation for text and forms, offered before the visit and not as a surprise after booking

If you do not know which choice to pick, stay on the check-in page and send a secure message in the same thread. Staff can help you choose.

What the visit does not do

These limits are built in. They do not depend on a higher plan.

No recording

Audio and video service sessions are not recorded. Recording and transcription stay off.

No detail in reminders

Reminders carry no name, service type, or location detail and go only to the channel you chose.

Access stays in scope

Staff access is role-based and checked on the server. Activity is logged without survivor detail.

Read the full account on Security and privacy. All environments are hosted in the United States and access from outside the United States is not allowed.

After the visit

After the visit

Staff mark the visit as attended, missed, or cancelled, create the follow-up, and record the outcome without recording the session. You can send a follow-up message in the same secure thread and ask for a new link if you need one.

Send a follow-up message

Stay in the same secure thread. Earlier messages stay visible after a channel change or a reassignment to backup coverage.

Secure messages and video visits

Ask for help with a link

If a link expires or the visit ends, ask the program for a new single-purpose link. Each link serves one purpose only and can be revoked at any time.

If you need to leave at once

Use quick exit or press Escape. The view clears and you go to a neutral page.
